The story “Responsibility to Be” became one of 165 stories submitted to the organizers of the 2025 Responsibility Award. And now, a long list of 65 nominees has been formed. The winners of the Award will be announced on January 22, Ukrainian Unity Day.

Our partnership story is based on Lviv’s path to the European Capital of Culture 2030 title (ECoC), the experience of applying for this title, and the preparation of a city program for cultural development, which Lviv approved in December 2025. The concept of “Responsibility to Be” was a response to the need to advocate for Ukraine and strengthen its international presence through culture. It addresses issues of identity, experiences of war and resilience, and the building of a united and barrier-free society, which is only possible through joint efforts.

Our “Responsibility to Be“ — all ideas, names, and partners — is in Lviv’s application for the ECoC 2030 competition: https://bit.ly/4oi4T5K.

The Responsibility Award was established in 2021 by the Bohdan Hawrylyshyn Family Foundation. The award is based on the Declaration of Human Responsibilities, created by the outstanding Ukrainian economist and visionary Bohdan Hawrylyshyn. In 2026, we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of his birth.

This competition recognizes projects created through the interaction of different sectors of society that demonstrate the power of unity, strengthen the country, and inspire with their stories. The key message of the award in 2025 is “Responsibility unites, and unity multiplies change”.
