\"\u26aa\ufe0f\" Almost all “big” cultures are in fact post-imperial, the beneficiaries of the age of empires and maritime powers. The less lucky ones had to prove themselves, and still have. A country may be big in size, and even have a big economy, but that doesn’t necessarily translate into a stronger voice or a sincere public interest. However, there is a sad loophole to get to the cultural arena: a war (or other tragedy). (Balkan artists and writers may tell a thing or two about that.) At the same time, the power of money enables autocracies and kleptocracies to pay their way into the art and intellectual world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U || Michael Cole,<\/strong> a PhD researcher in political science at the University of Tartu<\/a>. His research focuses on culture, identity, and politics, focusing on Ukraine, Estonia, Georgia, and Poland. During his PhD research, Michael conducted fieldwork in the Ukrainian cities of Mariupol, Lviv, Ternopil, and Kyiv.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U || Carl Henrik Fredriksson<\/strong>, a Swedish author and editor, living in Vienna, Austria. Co-founder and, to 2015, Editor-in-Chief of Eurozine<\/a>. He is the Programme Director of Debates on Europe, cooperating with the S. Fischer Foundation and the German Academy for Language and Literature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

U || Moderator Oksana Forostyna<\/strong>, a publisher, translator, and editor. Opinion Editor at Ukraina Moderna website, a Visegrad Insight Fellow, and Europe’s Futures Fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna (2022-2023). She contributes to Liberties, The European Review of Books, Krytyka, and Visegrad Insight. Over the years, she has curated thematic programs for the Culture Congress, the Ukrainian Cross-Section project, and the Book Arsenal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
