Discover Ukrainian art in Tartu 2024! || Presentations of online platform & essay collection

On November 8, you’ll be awaited for presentations and talks dedicated to the triennial of Ukrainian contemporary art, Ukrainian Cross-Section. This is the second part of Ukrainian days in Tartu. UKRAINE! UNMUTED. Entrance to the events is free.

Moderated discussion and digital platform presentation based on the triennial of Ukrainian contemporary art UKRAINIAN CROSS-SECTION

The digital platform is a collection of information about 5 editions of the project over 15 years in various European cities: Lublin 2010, 2013, Wrocław 2016, Lviv 2019, Kaunas 2022. The resource contains exhibition concepts from different years, information about the artists who participated in the project and their works, and accompanying texts and catalogues.

It will also discuss the implementation practices of the Ukrainian Cross-Section in the European Capitals of Culture.

Presentation of the essay collection UKRAINE! UNMUTED

As part of the fifth triennial, which took place in Kaunas ECoC 2022, a collection with the same theme as the project called UKRAINE! UNMUTED was published. The authors, whose texts were included in the collection, were extraordinary people of Ukrainian culture — art critics, writers, researchers, and philosophers. The book is designed to open Ukrainian culture to a foreign audience and especially addresses its identity and anti-colonial discourse.

This year’s edition includes an important text by Olena Apchel, a PhD in art history, theatre director, performer, curator, and playwright. In 2024, Apchel returned to Ukraine and joined the Defence Forces.

The editor and compiler of the collection is Oksana Forostyna. Anna Verschik, Margus Lattik (Mathura), and Ilona Martson translated texts into Estonian.

Project UKRAINE! UNMUTED is organized by Cultural Strategy Institute and NGO «Virmenska 35»It is a part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024  programme and also Bad Ischl ECoC 2024 programme / Salzkammergut 2024.
